Video: Pirlo makes final appearance, legend set to retire

Andrea Pirlo has played what looks to be his final game after New York City FC were eliminated from the MLS playoffs on Sunday.

The 38-year-old came on as a late substitute as Patrick Vieira's side pushed for another goal as a 2-0 win over Columbus was insufficient, as the Italian legend and World Cup winner managed to make one last appearance.

Pirlo suggested last month that he would hang his boots up at the end of the MLS season, and so assuming he sticks to that plan, the former AC Milan and Juventus midfielder will bring the curtain down on a glittering career.

Aside from winning countless trophies, including six Serie A titles as well as two Champions League trophies, the midfield maestro was considered one of the best ever in his position.
