During what has been an indifferent start to the season for Fiorentina under Stefano Pioli, one youngster has shone brighter than the rest of the Viola stars; Federico Chiesa.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chiesa and his club are very close to finding an agreement on the terms of a new contract. The last meeting was positive. The difference between the offer presented by Pantaleo Corvino and the demands of the Chiesa family is minimal. By the end of the month, Chiesa should be the Viola’s best paid player with an annual salary of €2 million. There will be no release clause included.

Meanwhile, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has long been one of Chiesa’s many admirers and remains interested in taking him to Milan. The Nerazzurri have begun probing for information, and could bid as much as €50 million for the very talented youngster. They would of course be able to offer him a much more lucrative contract than the one he is on the verge of signing with the Tuscans.

Beneamata coach Luciano Spalletti added fuel to the fire yesterday by discussing Chiesa’s quality at a charity event he attended: “He is very strong, and one of the best young players out there. I like the fact he always puts the team first and does not only think about his own performance. The former Roma boss sees the 20-year-old as an ideal partner for Antonio Candreva and Ivan Perišić, both key men in Inter’s new project.
