WATCH: An emotional Andriy Shevchenko fights back tears as he remembers Cesare Maldini
Lot of Serie A and Rossoneri greats attended Cesare Maldini’s funeral in Milan today.
Cesare Maldini’s son Paolo, a legend of the Rossoneri , dedicated his father a moving letter, whilst an emotional Andriy Shevchenko fought back tears remembering the former Italy boss.
‘He was a good person, he was like our dad. I’m really sorry’, the former Ukraine International told journalist.
Former Parma boss Nevio Scala also shared a memory: ‘He really loved me, even if we played against each other many times. He was an extraordinary, classy person.’
Luigi Di Biagio, who fluffed the last penalty in Italy’s 1998 World Cup quarter finals against France added:
‘Each time I met him, I apologized for having prevented him from becoming World cup winner. He just replied I shouldn’t be worried, he was special.’
‘I met him in 1982, I was very young’, Daniele Massaro said.
‘From that moment he became like a father to me. I am very close to Paolo in this moment, I also lost my father and I know what it means.’
