West Ham dealt blow in race for Serie A star

West Ham may have had a spanner thrown in their spokes over the possible recruitment of Sylvan Widmer.

“Silvan loves to play for Udinese,” Freddy Strasser told zonacalcio.

“A move away could only happen if a top European club were to be his destination.

“There are only 4-5 clubs in Italy and who are participating in [European] Cup competitions who could take him away from Udine.

“He’s a great talent, a very able wing player who can both defend and attack. There aren’t many players like him around”.

Il Messaggero wrote recently that West Ham were interested in the 24-year-old, who has made ten assists over the last three seasons.

The Hammers have been recruiting heavily in defence, especially at right-back, where Michail Antonio is considered to be overkill because he is such a good attacking force.

West Ham are thinking of making an offer for the €10 million man, who is also liked by Lazio.
