Why AC Milan have more chances than Juve to sign Godin for free

Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly set to challenge Juventus in the chase to sign Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin. The Uruguayan has become one of the most consistent defenders over the last few years and had attracted interest from Manchester United this past summer. He was close to signing a new deal back then a move to United was rejected by the defender.

Corriere dello Sport now state that Godin is yet to agree terms over a new deal with Atleti, with his current expiring in the summer of 2019. Atleti are desperate to hand him a contract, but AC Milan are now in the race to sign the defender in an attempt to provide stiff competition to Juventus in the race for the 32-year-old former Villarreal man.

One factor that could play Godin down in Juve’s transfer list is his age. The bianconeri have just one central defender below the age of 30 in Daniele Rugani and they feel that they might just bring a younger centre-back in if not Godin.
