Chelsea’s Amelia: 'I had a fight with Bonera'

The new Chelsea goalkeeper  Marco Amelia has spoken to Italian newspaper Libero about the end of his experience at AC Milan, as well as his new adventure ad Stamford Bridge.

Druing his last spell with the Serie A giants, Amelia was reported to have brawled with former team-mate  Daniele Bonera on the team bus, while the Rossoneri were travelling back from the inauguration of Casa Milan, the club’s new headquarters.

The former Milan goalkeeper confirmed that the two had come to blows.

“Following the inauguration, I stopped with [Stefan] El Shaarawy to sign autographs for fans, but none of our team-mates followed us. I tried to convince them along with a club’s director, but some of them just replied that they were not in the right mood.”

“When we made our comeback on the bus, Bonera whispered some silly comments that really upset me. I ran towards him, and threw a punch. Our team-mates promptly separated us, otherwise I would have added a couple more.”

“There were more than 400 supporters attending the event and in that period the team was struggling with results. I thought we should have shown some respect, and at least sign some autographs. What's worse is that the day after the entire Italian media knew about the brawl. Having a mole in the dressing room is never a positive thing.”

“Anyway, it ended up there with Daniele [Bonera,] I had no more problems with him.”

The 2006 World Cup Winner has also spoken about his relationship with the current Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, who was in charge of AC Milan when Amelia was at the club.

“I was the second choice goalkeeper behind Christian Abbiati. There was a period when I was a starter too, but Allegri excluded me, and failed to give me an explanations.”

“When Clarence Seedorf took over I had already decided to leave the club, but he convinced me to stay. He was a leader and I decided to remain at the club. Sacking him was a huge mistake. He brought discipline in the dressing room.”

The 33 year old also explained why José Mourinho has asked him to join Chelsea.

“I have experience and he wants me to give some advices to my new team-mates. Despite being all skilled and talented, they are all on their twenties. It is not true that Mourinho is facing a dressing room mutiny. We are all united at Chelsea, even if we are struggling at the moment.”
