EXCLUSIVE Facchetti Jr. ‘Inter should support Mancini more’

With Fiorentina and Inter ready to face each other at the Franchi on Sunday evening, Gianfelice Facchetti, son of the legendary Giacinto, who played with Inter between 1960 and 1978 before becoming the club’s president in 2004, talks exclusively to calciomercato.com to share his thoughts on Inter’s run of bad results.

Are Inter more vulnerable without Handanovic’s miraculous saves?
“It's not just about Handanovic, the whole defense was more solid and in the last few games Mancini has struggled to balance the attacking trio Palacio-Eder-Icardi with the rest of team. They created lot of chances against Verona and they also came back from two goals down. That’s a good news, it means the team is alive.”

Why does Roberto Mancini seems so nervous?
“I have the feeling that once results were not as good anymore, the club should have stayed closer to him. He could be a bit tired too. He’s been tasked with jobs which are not the manager’s duties. The Director of Sport Ausilio would have deserved some more support too.”

Is the Fiorentina clash decisive in race for Champions League qualification?
“More for the teams’ morals rather than for their table. Should Fiorentina win, they’d have four points more than Inter, while if the Nerzzurri will get the better of their direct rivals, they’d boost their self-confidence.”

Both team are struggling at the moment, which one do you think is feeling better right now?
“AS you said, it’s a difficult moment for both. Fiorentina’s fans are disappointed for the winter transfer window, while Inter have been having some negative results over the last month and a half.”

Could Roma take advantage of their rivals’ troubles?
“Potentially, they have the best team in Serie A. Many people considered them the favorites to win Serie A at the beginning of the season and I was among them. They’re slowly recovering lost ground. The support of their fans will be very important too. They’ll battle it out with Fiorentina and Inter till the end.”
