EXCLUSIVE Juventus could have signed Murillo

As most of you will have undoubtedly read, Juventus are very interested in signing rising Inter star Jeison Murillo. Recent reports indicate that the Nerazzurri do not intend to sell, and certainly not for less than €35 million. Even then, they would hesitate to hand over one of their crown hewels to their bitter rivals.

And yet, transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano reveals that the 23-year-old Colombian very nearly moved to Turin a while back, when he still belonged to Granada, the Liga BBVA club owned by the Pozzo family of Udinese.

Back in January 2014, Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici had Murillo in their grasp. This was all thanks to Marcelo Ferreyra, his agent, who was also working on Fredy Guarin's behalf.

With Inter and Juventus on the verge of making the infamous Guarin - Mirko Vucinic swap (which was browbeaten by the furore that followed), Ferreyra hung around Turin a lot, and enabled him to get talks underway. They reached an advanced stage, only for them to suddenly go South.

Juventus will have some cause for regret, as the Colombian is now a star in Serie A, forming a strong central defensive pairing with Joao Miranda and helping the Nerazzurri turn their defence around after a dreadful season or two at the back.
