Fiorentina Trasnfer News: Could Lazar Markovic be the next Stevan Jovetic?

It was October 2012 when Lazar Markovic, who had just turned 18, impressed the whole world of football during a Europa League game against Inter. That game was the definitive proof that Markovic was not only a skilled and talented footballer, but that he also had enough personality to make big things happen. Today, in fact, he’s been already wearing the shirts of Benfica, Liverpool and Fenerbache.

Going back to 2012, Markovic was close to joining Inter, but the player’s agent had different plans.

Inter had to held transfer talks not with Partizan Belgrade, but with an investment found belonging to the football agent Pini Zahavi.

The latter had acquired the 100% of Markovic’s economic rights for € 7 million just a few months before. The following year, he sold Markovic to Benfica for € 10 million. The Serbian winger settled in well at the Estadio Da Luz as thanks so his technical skills and an astonishing one-to-one dribbling.

After one impressive season with the Portugese side, he joined Liverpool for a fee of € 25 million that was splitted between Benfica and Mr. Zahavi.

With his move to the Premier League, probably the most spectacular league in the world, Markovic was supposed to take the final step to greatness.

On the other, hand he spent more time warming the Reds’ bench rather than playing and when Brendan Rodgers deployed him it was rarely on Markovic’s favorite position, which is right winger.

Markovic made 34 appearances in all competitions playing only six times for the whole 90 minutes. He netted three goals and registered one assist. Definitely not enough for a € 25 million signing.

Following his disappointing spett at Anfield, Brendam Rodgers decided to loan him out to Turkish side Fenerbache last summer, where other Premier League outcasts were sold: former Man Utd stars Robin Van Persie and Nani.

This season, Markovic is still failing to live up to his potential, mainly due to injuries. He has yet to show his best form  and chances of losing another great talent are high.

Markovic has only netted one goal in Europa League in this campaign.

The player, by the way, is still very young and a move to Fiorentina could aid his development. Football agent Fali Ramadani has already brought the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Adem Ljajic to the Franchi and if Markovic would recover his best form, becoming the player that he used to be before he joined Liverpool, he could play a vital to boost La Viola’s title hopes.

Persuading Liverpool to sell Markovic on loan, by the way, will be nothing easy as Reds would have to cancel the Fenerbache loan deal, to loan him out again to Fiorentina. In case La Viola would prefer to sign the player on a permanent basis, his price-tag is believed to be in the region of € 10 million.
