From Musacchio to Bellarabi: objective Champions League for Milan

Milan have the taste of Champions League football in their mouths once more. Six wins in their last eight league games has propelled them into third place in the Serie A table, but coach Vincenzo Montella is keeping both feet firmly on the ground and wants January reinforcements. As Corriere dello Sport states this morning, the rossoneri are still looking for a top-class central defender and a midfield general to replace the unfortunate Montolivo and relieve some of the pressure on youngster Locatelli. To complete the new trident, Montella has also requested an attacking wide man.

For the defence, the name remains the same, 26-year-old Villarreal man Mateo Musacchio. A deal for the Argentine looked set to go ahead in the summer but the Yellow Submarine put up a wall that Milan just could not scale. All eyes towards the Premier League for the midfield with Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas still the number one choice. The players personal demands may be too much however so the alternative if Fiorentina’s Milan Badelj. Finally Bayer Leverkusen’s Karim Bellarabi is the target for the right side. The 26-year-old German international is also well respected by the club’s new Sporting Director Mirabelli. These are the names that Montella believes can be the final pieces in his Milan jigsaw that can return the club to the big European stage once again.
