Inter downed by Swiss minnows in friendly

Inter have lost their latest friendly 3-1, this time to second-tier Swiss side Chiasso.

With most of the starters away on international duty and not due to report back until next Thursday, Roberto Mancini got to experiment with a few Primavera youngsters, as well as former Parma force of nature Jonathan Biabiany.

Having created very little, Inter were just as ineffective at marking Chiasso striker Melazzi, who was left on his own in front of Juan Pablo Carrizo to put his side in front on 26 minutes.

The Beneamata did very little to claw her way back into the game, a solitary Melo header being pawed away by Swiss goalkeeper Gualtelli just before the break.

Half-time saw Mancini make a few changes, throwing in young Primavera talent Delgado, who immediately got a good chance to level things.

A defensive error from Chiasso allowed Icardi to tie the match, but that’s as good as it got for the Nerazzurri, who soon saw third goalkeeper Tommaso Berni commit two horrific howlers on 62 and 76 minutes to give the Swiss side the victory.

Inter’s form in this game isn’t necessarily an indicator of their form in competitive matches: only Mauro Icardi, Felipe Melo and Alex Telles were there to represent the regular starters. Moreover, Mancini’s charges fared just as poorly during their summer exhibition games, and were still able to start the season with five wins in seven, albeit winning every single game by just one goal.

Two of Chiasso’s goals also came down to silly goalkeeping errors, which could also be said for at least two of Fiorentina’s goals in their 4-1 humbling of the Nerazzurri two weeks ago at the Giuseppe Meazza.

That said, Inter’s inability to present much of a threat to Gualelli’s goal has to be taken into consideration.
