According to reports in The Sun, Liverpool are lining up a January assault for Southampton defensive duo Virgil van Dijk and Sam McQueen.
 

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has his side playing some of the best football in Europe right now but the German tactician believes that tightening up his defence will be the final piece in his rebuilding of the Merseyside giants.
 

25-year-old van Dijk has only just recently signed a new six-year-deal at St Mary’s but Klopp is convinced he can prize him away from the Saints in the new year. 21-year-old academy player McQueen is a highly-rated left-back who has been impressive since breaking into the first-team this season. The player is out of contract at the end of the season and is reported to be stalling on a possible extension.  

Former England midfielder James Milner has been used as an auxiliary left-back this season after Klopp lost faith with Alberto Moreno after some nightmare performances for the club.
