Mauro Tassotti leaves Milan to join new Ukraine Coach Shevchenko, tributes pour in

After 36 years’ service, Mauro Tassotti is no longer employed by AC Milan.

The former defender joined the club in 1980, hanging up his boots in 1997 after winning three Champions League trophies and 5 Scudettos with the Diavolo.

In recent years, Tassotti is more remembered for being the ever-present assistant of Carlo Ancelotti and Max Allegri.

He left that post last year when Sinisa Mihajlovic took over, becoming a scout for the Rossoneri. Yesterday, however, the Roman quit that post to join Andriy Shevchenko, the Ukraine’s new Coach.

Sheva worked under Tassotti from 2001 onwards, and will also bring Andrea Maldera - previously responsible for the club’s youth setup - to Kiev, too.

It hasn’t taken long for tributes to flood in, with former players Filippo Galli and Alessandro Nesta praising their former colleagues on social media.
