Lazio vs. Milan – Team Comparison

Only two points separate Lazio and Milan in the Serie A table ahead of tonight’s meeting. The gap between the two sides is really narrow, as it also emerges trawling through all the Biancelesti and Rossoneri stats.

Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli left a gash on both defenses having scored five goals against Lazio and four against Milan. The two sides have registered the same number of goals conceded (15), even if the Capitolines have kept four clean sheets, while  Milan have only prevented their opponents to score during the last Wednesday’s home game against Chievo.

Only the relegation candidates Verona and Carpi as well as Torino have registered a worst defensive record thus far.

The struggles of both the defensive lines seem not to depend on the team’s efforts in defending resolutely as Lazio and Milan have won more than the 75% of the tackles thus far.

The Biancoceltesti, by the way, seem to be more likely to take the command of the midfield. It is not a case that Milan supporters hit out at the club’s summer transfer campaign as Adriano Galliani failed to bring in a quality regista who could be deployed a s a playmaker, just like Lazio’s Lucas Biglia.

Stefano Pioli’s men registered 628 successful passes more than Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side (3885 vs. 3257), while both managers are struggling a bit with their winger’s quality in crossing the ball. Lazio counted 39 successful crosses against the unsuccessful 171. AC Milan registered 29 successful cross attempts, missing the other 123.

This statistic can also be explained with another thing that the two gaffers have in common, which is being short of attacking options due to their respective striker’s injuries.

The physical hassles of Miroslav Klose and Filip Djordjevic at the Stadio Olimpico as well as the absences of Mario Balotelli and M’Baye Niang at San Siro played a big part in Lazio and Milan lack of goals thus far as the Biancocelesti have plundered 15 goals, while the Rossoneri  12.
