Juventus, Higuain reborn thanks to Buffon

Juventus, Higuain reborn thanks to Buffon

Juventus star striker Gonzalo Higuain netted a brace on Saturday to help the Old Lady seal a crucial 2-0 win over AC Milan. The Argentinean did not have a great start to the season but his brace at the San Siro and his solid performance against the rossoneri have made him return among the top strikers in Serie A this season.

As Italian media points out this morning, there are two main reasons behind Higuain’s stunning comeback.

The first one is Argentina’s snub. The Seleccion coach Jorge Sampaoli, in fact, did not call El Pipita for the last four games of the senior national team and Higuain used his time ‘off’ to recover his physical shape at Juventus’ training centre.

Juventus goalkeeper and captain Gigi Buffon did also play a vital part in getting Higuain back on track. After the Udinese clash, Buffon praised the Argentinean and the former Napoli star thanked his captain after the San Siro showdown on Saturday.

“I have to thank Gigi for his kind words, it’s been very important for me. I worked hard and in silence, I’ll try to score 30 goals this season, why not. I am enjoying the brace now, the next Sportign clash in Champions League will be vital for us.”
