Rafa Benitez: 'Moratti was too emotional about Inter'

Former Inter Milan manager Rafa Benitez has criticised the club's former chairman Massimo Moratti for being too emotional for sacking him.

Benitez joined Inter as the club's boss back in June 2010 following the departure of Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid but was sacked months after his appointment, following a series of bad performances from the nerazzurri.

Benitez recently gave a lengthy interview to Gazzetta dello Sport about a lot of things and he was asked about his time at Inter too. The Spaniard said that Moratti was too emotional about the club.

Benitez said: "We had won two titles, which were a good result. Moratti remains a gentleman, but was in love with his Inter and is too emotional.

"For him, players gave everything, then just a wrong result came and he used to be unnerved. I had to say goodbye because of the old guards? It is not true. I had the support of Zanetti, Cordoba, Milito, Walter Samuel, Cambiasso and Eto'o himself who scored 18 goals with me.

"Maybe Moratti did not feel like breaking away from his wards. There were 15 players over 30, we had a plan to renew their contracts, but there was the problem of financial fair play. I knew it when the market was closed."
