FOCUS Divisive Icardi set to be replaced as Inter captain
The Argentine captain’s recent tiff with the Ultras comes off the back of his attempts at getting a new deal in summer, which has set part of the fanbase against him.
His autobiography - officially released this week - included a passage in which he faced up to an Ultra leader who had prevented him from gifting his shirt to a young child.
Having insulted Icardi with a press statement, the Ultras took it a step further in today’s defeat to Cagliari, inviting Icardi to ‘take your armband off, you shi**y man’.
This provoked a split with the rest of the stadium, which drowned out the Curva’s boos, also shouting “Idiots” at Inter’s ultra element.
Problem is, the club’s recent statements (especially those of Javier Zanetti and Piero Ausilio) see them as likely to give the Ultras satisfaction… and hand over the captain’s armband to someone else.
Inter’s problems are far from over.
