No dispute that Gonzalo Higuain can be considered the best Serie A striker. The Argentinean was reported to be very close to a Stadio San Paolo exit last summer, after having spent one of the worst spell of his career under Rafa Benitez.

Maurizio Sarri’s appointment as Napoli’s boss changed Higuain’s mood and performances at Napoli as the former Real Madrid man is the current Serie A top scorer with 9 goals in 12 matches.

The player’s brother and agent Nicolas, released an interview with the Italian radio station CRC specifying that the 27-year-old is very happy at Napoli right now and he has no intention to leave the club as a free agent at the end of his contract expiring in June 2018.

“Gonzalo will never activate FIFA’s article 17. It is not on his style, nor in the one of my family”, Higuain’s brother told the journalists.

“He’s very happy in Naples. You just need to watch his performances  to understand how much he respects the shirt. At the moment we are not in talks with Napoli for Gonzalo’s contract renewal. I met the President Aurelio De Laurentiis a few months ago in Venice, but it was not time to start a negotiations in that period as we were both focused on reaching our targets.”

Higuain’s goal against Udinese was the 200th of his professional career, but the Argentinean is also edging a record of Diego Armando Maradona at the Stadio San Paolo.

His compatriot was the only one capable of scoring eight successive goals in home games at Naples, while Higuain has just netted his 7th goal straight against Udinese.

“Of course it would be a great honor for Gonzalo to equalize Maradona’s record, but he’d prefer to win the Serie A title with the club. He wants to snatch a Scudetto title since the very first day that he joined the club.”

“My brother doesn’t speak a lot about what’s going on in the backroom, but I have noticed that since he has joined Napoli, he is becoming a real man as well as a true leader.”
Argentina’s head coach Gerardo Martino has also called up Higuain for the Albiceleste’s World Cup qualifying games against Brazil and Colombia.

“Gonzalo has never lost faith in the possibility of joining Argentina.”
