Messi’s father denies reports that his son is not signing a new contract with Barcelona

Leonel Messi’s father Horacio has denied that his son is not going to sign a contract extension with Barcelona. According to a report published in yesterday’s edition of Marca, the Argentinean star had informed Barcelona’s president Bartomeu that he would have not signed a new contract with the club, leaving the Nou Camp in 2018.

With an interview released to Mundo Deportivo, however, Horacio Messi has denied that his son is willing to leave Barcelona, adding that he’s going to meet Bartomeu soon to begin new contract talks. Both parties are reportedly interested in signing a new contract and a first meeting between Bartomeu and Messi’s father has been scheduled for the first week of December.

Messi, 29, has 16 goals in 14 appearances with Barcelona so far this season and could become the fourth big name to agree a new contract with Barcelona after that the likes of Neymar, Sergio Busquets and Mascherano have already signed a contract extension with the LaLiga giants.
