Former Fiorentina striker could join Man United

Mario Gomez has failed to live up to expectations at the Artemio Franchi, following a €15 million move from Bayern Munich in 2013.

Both poor form and injuries have hindered his two year spell at Fiorentina, but Gomez seems to have recovered his killer instinct after joining Super Lig giants Besiktas on a loan deal with option to buy.

The 30-year-old is currently in the form of his life, having netted nine goals in 13 seasonal games thus far. According to the English paper Manchester Evening Standard, Luis Van Gaal wants to solve Manchester United's scoring woes with the purchase of the Germany International hit-man.

The Red Devils’ boss has already coached Mario Gomez at Bayern Munich, and is desperately seeking to bring a striker to Old Trafford in the next transfer window, as both Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial are failing to score consistently.
