Former Inter owner Moratti set for a shocking return?

Massimo Moratti has been linked to a return to Inter Milan, according to a major Italian newspaper.

Il Giorno claim that the former owner and chairman of the club is willing to buy out Erick Thohir’s shares.

Thohir owns 31% of the Nerazzurri, but numerous reports have indicated that the Indonesian, who sold his majority stake to the Suning Group this summer, could leave the San Siro for good.

The story comes from Il Giorno’s sources close to Moratti through Saras, the Italian Energy provider he is the CEO of.

Moratti sold his majority stake in the club to Thohir back in 2013, remaining as the minority owner until Suning took over.

The report claims that Moratti would take over the day-to-day running of the sporting side of things, leaving the Chinese group to promote and develop Inter’s brand in Asia, as well as look for more lucrative partnerships.

The idea is that Moratti would eventually take the club back with a series of partners, including longtime ally and Pirelli CEO Marco Tronchetti Provera.
