Ventura to field youthful Italy line-up in 2018 World Cup

Italy national team coach Giampiero Ventura has met journalists today in Bari where Italy will face France on the 1st of September in his first game in charge of the azzurri.

“At the end of these two years I’d like to have many youths ready to play in World Cup – ideally between 21 and 23 year old. We have many youngsters and we should work to take them to an international level.”

“One bad game is enough to drop a young player in Italy. Donnarumma had a great season last year. If he confirms this quality and personality, the future belongs to him.”

Ventura has also made jokes over his predecessors at Bari and Italy national team Antonio Conte.

“It was my fortune when Conte left Bari and it was my fortune when he left Italy. When he leaves Chelsea, I already know my destiny. He made a great job at Bari some years ago and I am sure I will benefit from his work with Italy national team too.”
