EXCLUSIVE: The Numbers behind Max Allegri's Chelsea deal

Following yesterday's scoop, the London bookies’ odds on Massimo Allegri taking over at Chelsea have plummeted from 10/1 to 57/100. They’re not the only ones to credit our sources close to Allegri and Chelsea: the Sun has run with the same story, which somehow convinced the Italian media that the British tabloid had come up with the scoop first.

Problem is, though the Sun credited us, they got the numbers wrong. Allegri is supposed to make €25 million over his four years at Stamford Bridge, not the €10 million the NewsCorp paper cited.

Allegri’s salary would increase to 7.5 million in his last season, and he’ll be allowed to take his staff from Juventus, Milan and Cagliari with him.

Though nothing has been written or signed yet - and four months are a long time in football - the bookies are backing us for the time being.
