Focus on Inter’s right winger chase: Antonio Candreva v Domenico Berardi

Inter are still in race to quality to Champions League despite being five points behind third-ranked AS Roma. As CM.com’s Cristian Giudici points out, Roberto Mancini’s side have lost seven points from winning positions this term and the last ones to score a last-gasp goal against the Nerazzurri were Khouma Babacar and Radja Nainggolan.

Antonio Candreva and Domenico Berardi imitated both Fiorentina and AS Roma players when Lazio and Sassuolo travelled to the San Siro earlier this season. The two Italian wingers netted one goal from the spot each in their seasonal away game against Inter and, oddly, they’ve both been linked with a move to the Nerazzurri side.

Unfortunately for Inter fans, their club can only sign one of them.

Candreva, 29, is probably the most likely to join. Not being on good terms anymore with Stefano Pioli and Claudio Lotito, the former Juventus winger could leave Lazio for a fee of € 20 million. He earns € 1.8 million a year and his contract with the Biancoazzurri expires in June 2019.

Just like his compatriot Candeva, Domenico Berardi’s contract also runs until June 2019, though his salary is a bit lower than Candreva’s as the Sassuolo star is on a € 1.1 million a year deal at the Mapei Stadium.

Juventus have a € 25 million option to sign Berardi though the price-tag shown to other suitors could be more expensive, given his young age and his immense potential.

Age, however, plays an important role when these decisions have to be taken and Domenico Berardi is seven years younger than Antonio Candreva.

Just as much as the points Inter have lost this season.
