Roma, Spalletti: "Totti is strong, I would love to have 4-5 like him but I must look towards the best interests of the squad

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has been speaking at his press conference ahead of Wednesday night’s match against Torino.

He started with a quick update from the infirmary at Trigoria, stating that; “Both Pjanic and Digne are working on their fitness, we will evaluate them tomorrow”.  On to the subject of dropped points after two successive draws, Spalletti stated that; “There will be times when things don’t go according to plan but the team must always manage the game, because when we get into a physical battle we often lose our identity”.

On the highly publicised bust-up with Francesco Totti he explained that; “This is not open for discussion as I don’t want any more distractions. We must fully focus on Torino and forget about the past few days. The importance of the team does not come down to one player. I would like to find 4-5 more like him, because that’s what we need”.

When pointed out that the clubs official website had ran the headline “Totti saves Roma” Spalletti responded; “That’s right, it would have been better to have written about the build-up to the goal but its fine as it is. You do not need to write that Dzeko should play in his place or that he should go away”. He continued by stating; “I will say this once again, my goal is victory for Roma and the club has won many matches without Totti, I’m sorry if Francesco misinterpreted the question, but that’s a matter for him to deal with. He’s training well but I will continue to do what I think is right for the team”.
