Bayern, Arturo Vidal could face one-match ban after Werder dive

Arturo Vidal earned diving penalty kick in Bayern Munich’s 2-0 over Werder Bremen in the Germany super Cup semi-final yesterday.

Victory allowed the Bavarians to qualify for the tournament’s final (against Herta Berlin or Borussia Dortmund) but the Chile International could face a suspension for that game.

A host of German papers have called for German FA sanction against the former Juventus midfielder for his unsporting behaviour. Even Vidal’s teammate Thomas Muller had criticized the 28-year-old after the game.

“This can’t be done”, the Germany International told reporters after the Allianz Arena showdown.

There is a precedent in German football’s history which does not favour Vidal. Former Borussia Dormund player Andi Moller faced a two match ban and was fined 10.000 mark (around € 5.000) for diving to win a penalty which cost Werder Bremen the 1994-95 Bundesliga title.
