Brocchi: "Criticism is part of the job"

Ahead of their penultimate match of the season against Bologna, Milan coach Cristian Brocchi has been speaking at his press conference.

He was asked first whether Saturday’s match against Bologna would be similar to his first against Sampdoria to which he replied; “This week we have trained well and the players have given me good signals. I have the answers I want so I hope you see it during the game”. Looking back seven days to the disappointing home draw with Frosinone he stated that; “Whilst the final result (a 3-3 draw) was disappointing after being 1-3 down we could have given up but the team rolled up its sleeves and battled back”.

Asked what he wanted to see tomorrow he replied; “I want a positive attitude from the first minute and I’ve emphasized this to the players. Before Frosinone we were sluggish in training, this week we’ve been at 2000 mph. I want to see the same tomorrow”. Asked about what comments President Berlusconi had made about the game Brocchi remarked; “Only people who are close contact with us can evaluate what we do. The President must have appreciated the amount of chances we created and the number of crosses we put in to the penalty area”.

On the communication sent to the club by the fans on the curva sud he explained that; “The team wants to reach the Europa League and from the attitude in training people cannot say harsh things”. Asked he had underestimated the job he replied; “I never thought it would be easy. I’m living this moment with great enthusiasm. I go forward with great determination because like the fans, I love the club”.

Asked about dissenting voices coming from the dressing room, Brocchi stated that; “I never publicly criticize my players, but they must believe in themselves when they take to the field. I always feel my players are the strongest of all”. Asked what his team was missing he replied; “I have already spoken about the events in Verona, it was a collective responsibility. Against Frosinone it was different; it was individual errors that cost us dearly”.

Finally, on the rumours that Montella and Pellegrini are the favourites to succeed him in the summer he replied; “Galliani went to Madrid at the invite of Florentino Perez and there have been meetings with other managers throughout the season. I don’t concern myself with matters away from the field”.
