Italian FA president Abete: "My conscience is clean, I won't resign'

The worst ever Italy, a football movement in crisis, a future that risks being more black than ‘Azzurro’. There are many question marks on the just concluded World Cup and the Italian national team. The Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete tries to analyze everything, starting from the South African defeat: "The elimination of Italy in the first round is a bitter moment in football and all Italian sport. I do not think it was a matter of physical training. It is clear that it is linked to a lack of experience of players on a world level".  Then on the future of Italy: "There is an absolute need for a fresh start, We must start again, it’s an obligation. On July 1st will present Cesare Prandelli , we made a deal with him for the long term, to the World Cup  2014. I chose him not for his character but for his technical knowledge and his way of working with young people.'

Then he spoke of Marcello Lippi under fire for his choices: ''The choice of Lippi was mine and I do not deny this. We will always be grateful to him.  Choosing Lippi is not a reason to resign, it is a legitimate choice by the President of the Federation. My conscience is clean; I did what I had to. This does not mean that I do not feel responsible for what happened".
