Mihajlovic: ‘Donnarumma is better tha Diego Lopez’

Coming from a winning streak of two games Milan seem to be recovering from a terrible start to the season. The Rossoneri manager Sinisa Mihajlovic will ask his team to maintain the positive trend also in the challenging away game against Lazio. The Serbian boss spoke to the Italian thematic channel Milan TV ahead of the Stadio Olimpico face-off.

“I thought I would have solved the problems before than what I actually did. By the way, we are working really hard at the moment and in the last two games we have reaped the rewards of our efforts.”

“Sometimes the lads have showed lack of bravery, that’s why I was berating them in the half time against Chievo. I have seen a reaction in the second half, they were more hungry and they created more goal opportunities.”

Mihajlovic has recently  attracted quite a lot of criticisms from some commentators as he replaced the former Real Madrid shot-stopper Diego Lopez with the 16 year old debutant Gianluigi Donnarumma as the team’s senior goalkeeper.

“I have recently heard some negative  comments both about the team and Donnarumma. I am upset when a legitimate criticism become an insult. Who writes about AC Milan should have much more respect and consideration for this guy as he proved to be very talented and to have personality. What were they doing when they were 16? I am sorry for him, I just doesn’t have to care about it and carry on working like he’s doing right now.”

“Diego Lopez is an amazing goalkeeper and I am sure his moment will come again. By the way, I think that at the moment Donnarumma is better than him.

M’Baye Niang is recovering from the injury that he suffered at the beginning of the season and he will start from the bench against Lazio.

“He is recovering he is eligible to play the last 15-20 minutes. He can play both as an attacking winger and a main striker. We’ll see if we need him.”

“Lazio are favorite against us, but we can win if we play as we know. The team is regaining self-confidence, we need to display the best performance of the season to beat Lazio. Our target is to reach a Champions League spot. We know that in this moment there are better teams than us, but it doesn’t mean that it’ll be like this for the rest of the season.”

“I am short of options up front as I can only rely on two strikers (Bacca and Luis Adriano). When we’ll recover some forwards we’ll be able to play another system and we’ll improve even more. Some journalists are always speaking about absents and injured in other teams, but none ever says that right now we only have two strikers fit to play.”
