Mourinho: "Ibrahimovic? We will use the clause to renew until 2018"

Speaking at his press-conference ahead of Thursday’s Europa League game against Feyenoord, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wanted to set the record straight over the future of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 35-year-old stated this week that his future could lie in the MLS but the Portuguese tactician told reporters that; “He has a clause in his contract for an automatic renewal for the 2017-18 season. The situation is simple, we are happy to have him and happy to take up the option for the second year”. He continued; “He is happy with the project and loves playing for Manchester United and this will be the last great challenge of a wonderful career”.

Even before he left PSG for Old Trafford, Ibrahimovic was linked with a move to the USA with reports suggesting he would link up with David Beckham at his new Miami franchise. He has never disguised the fact that a switch to the MLS fascinates him but he maintains that Manchester United was the only club he would have left the French capital for.
