Rudi Voller: "Roma the strongest in Serie A"
Bayer Leverkusen Sporting Director Rudi Voller returns to his former club Roma, only this time as an opponent in Champions League Group E.
Speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the grey-haired striker known as Tante Käthe was just as shocked as anyone about the Giallorossi's 4-4 draw at the Bayer Arena, but also had some kind words about his former club.
"I've been in football a few years, I've seen everything one can see but that game was crazy, a real show for the fans. Had it finished 2-2 Roma would have been happy to earn a point, I guess whoever scores last gets the last laugh.
"Then again Roma have proved that they can play well, and that they're the best team in Serie A. Roma can win the Scudetto."
Whilst Bayer are second in Group E with 4 points, Roma are rock bottom after that crazy night in Leverkusen with only two, having played an awful first half in their 2-0 away loss to BATE Borisov. Does Voller see the two teams providing fireworks again?
"The two teams won't necessarily be more prudent, it could end 1-0, 0-0, 0-1. Four days after the Champions League draw we played the same game and won 4-3 against Stuttgart. If we avoid a defeat we'll have a small advantage, but it'll be a tough game."
Roma face Lazio in the Derby della Capitale next weekend, and sit 2nd in Serie A after Saturday's 1-0 loss to Inter Milan.
