A weekend full of penalty woe around Europe; the details

The great Pele once said; “A penalty is a petty way of scoring” but it seems this weekend that some of the best in Europe have not taken full advantage of their opportunities. 48 hours of penalty nightmares started on Friday evening when Mario Balotelli and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed from 11 metres despite their respective sides claiming victories.

On Saturday, the trend continued with six attempts failing to find the net.  Borussia Monchengladbach duo Hahn and Stindl and Manchester City stars Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero all failed to convert with the Premier League pair being denied by a brilliant performance from Everton number one Marten Stekelenburg. Staying in England, Belgian international Christian Benteke also failed for Crystal Palace as they went down 0-1 at home to West Ham United and in Serie A, Caprari also failed to convert from the spot that would have probably given his Pescara team all three points against Sampdoria.
