Agent claims that Buffon may not retire in 2018

Gianluigi Buffon’s agent Silvano Martina has told Tuttosport that his client could decide not to retire in January when the Italian goalkeeper will be 40-year-old.

Buffon has been insisting that the 2018 World Cup in Russia will be the last competition that he will play in his career. The 38-year-old’s contract with Juventus also expires in summer 2018 which means that he might play the last World Cup in his career as a free agent.

“I think Buffon’s retirement is still far”, Mr. Martina has told the Italian newspaper.

“It will be tough for Italy and Juventus to replace such a big legend as him as I don’t see anyone who is as good as Gigi at the moment.”

“He [Buffon] used to say that he wanted to retire at 30 and then he changed his mind and said he’d retire at 40. Let’s see what he wants to do when 2018 comes.”

Buffon has 167 appearances with Italy national team and 594 with Juventus.
