Exclusive: Defensive signings part of Stefano Pioli's Inter revolution | by Fabrizio Romano

Inter’s revolution under Stefano Pioli looks to have begun in earnest. What can we expect over the coming weeks?

In transfer terms, the Nerazzurri are set to be linked with a centre-back and a full-back. The latter role would have been covered by Matteo Darmian, but the former Torino man has regained his spot in Manchester United’s starting team following Antonio Valencia’s injury. A pity for the Nerazzurri, as he had an agreement with Inter.

At centre-back, on the other hand, Francesco Acerbi is still to be surveyed, but it’s hard to see Sassuolo splitting with the former Milan man. Mattia Caldara, who is 22, is another name being linked to the Nerazzurri, but he’s more of a June acquisition.

Kia Joorabchian is still trying to bring Inter closer to Viktor Lindelof, but he’s very expensive.

On the other hand, Benfica full-back Nelson Semedo is, like Aleix Vidal, considered a good option for the wing.

Pioli’s teams have always used a regista, a midfield maestro who dictates the play and the tempo. The former Lazio man is set to meet with Ever Banega to see if he’s willing to adapt to the role. Were he to refuse, Inter could search for a player with that profile on the market, especially with Chelsea target Marcelo Brozovic ends up being sold.

Another name? That of Gabriel Barbosa, who Suning are insisting be used more.
