How are Juventus going to finance the purchase of Gonzalo Higuain?

The rumour linking Gonzalo Higuain with a move to Juventus is dominating Italian football news outlets. Napoli are only open to sell the player for the release clause (€ 94 million). Giuseppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici are already planning how to finance the purchase of the all time’s best Serie A scorer.

First of all, EXOR have given the green light for a huge investment to sign Higuain and have allowed Juve to rise their salary cap from a maximum of € 4.5 million to € 6 million a year in order to keep the best players in the squad, namely Leonardo Bonucci and Paul Pogba who have received offers from Manchester City and Manchester United respectively.

Juventus’ initial budget for the transfer market is set between € 50 an € 70 million. In addition to that, Juventus have sold Alvaro Morata
to Real Madrid for € 30 million, whilst the Old Lady has also agreed the transfer fees of Simone Zaza (€ 25 million offered by Wolfsburg) and Roberto Pereyra who should move to Napoli for € 15 million.

The bianconeri have already invested € 35 million in the current transfer window having registered the signings of Miralem Pjanic (€ 32 million), Dani Alves (free agent) and Mehdi Benatia (€ 3 million for the loan deal, plus € 20 million that will be paid in one year time and that are not taken into account in the current transfer window).

Do not forget that Mauricio Isla is also set to leave Juventus alongside Magnusson who is close to joining Bristol City. Heranes and Lemina are on the bianconeri’s list of departures too and their sales could bring € 20-25 million to further enhance the Old Lady’s finances.

Higuain’s release clause can be split in two instalments. Juventus would have to pay € 47 million this summer and the same fee in one year time. The signings of Pjaca and Gabigol might require an extra investment or the sale of Daniele Rugani to Napoli or Arsenal but Juventus have a plan to buy Higuian without selling Paul Pogba or Leonardo Bonucci.
