Inter strongman Medel tears meniscus, could miss up to two months

Inter strongman Medel tears meniscus, could miss up to two months

The worst-case scenario has materialized for Inter midfielder Gary Medel.

As confirmed by the Nerazzurri, the Chilean international’s injury is serious, today’s medical confirming that he has torn his lateral meniscus.

As we mentioned earlier today, the 29-year-old could now skip as much as 7-8 weeks, and only be back for January.

The Nerazzurri have two options open to them: they can either try to operate, or simply attempt to treat the former Cardiff City man’s knee. Were they to succeed with the former, he could be back inside a month.

Otherwise, the Beneamata hope to get Medel back for their first game after the break, on January 8th against Udinese.

This is a huge pity for the Serie A giants who, as written by our Pasquale Guarro, had experimented with using Medel in central defence, where he played a very convincing 37 minutes against rivals AC Milan on Sunday… until he went off injured, that is.

Could this prompt Inter to return to the transfer market?
