    OFFICIAL: Platini's ban reduced to four years. He will resign from UEFA

    The Court of Arbitration for Sport has this morning reduced Uefa President Michel Platini’s ban from six years to four.

    The announcement was made by lawyers of Platini who have also confirmed that he will retire from the role of president: "Platini will deliver his resignation as president of Uefa on the occasion of the next Congress” a statement read.

    On December 21st last year, the 60-year-old was suspended for eight years together with the former president of Fifa Joseph Blatter, ahead of an investigation on a payment of 2 million Swiss francs paid in 2011 to the Frenchman by Fifa for work carried out a decade before. In a statement Platini remarked;

    “I take note of today's decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport but I see it as a profound injustice. This decision imposes upon me a suspension which will prevent me, coincidentally, to present myself at the next Fifa presidential election. As agreed with the national associations, I resign from my position of president of Uefa in order to continue my fight before the Swiss courts to prove my probity in this matter. Life always has nice surprises in reserve; I am henceforth available to live".
