REVEALED Buffon's 29 penalty saves
Beyond helping get his season on the right track after dreadful errors against Udinese and Spain, the 38-year-old’s save off Alexandre Lacazette’s spotkick also happened to be the 29th penalty he’s saved in his career in the course of a game.
Notice the previous caveat, which excludes the Carrara native’s double save from Kakhaber Kaladze and Clarence Seedorf in the 2003 Champions League final… in which Juventus fluffed three and had to settle for second place.
Ironically, Buffon would save a grand total of zero spot kicks against France in 2006… David Trezeguet hitting the bar enough to hand Italy her fourth World Cup. Life’s weird like that.
