Barcelona: Aleix Vidal set for Marseille switch

According to Spanish journal Sport, Marseille are now the favourites to land Barcelona’s attacking full-back Aleix Vidal. The 27-year-old Spaniard is surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou and new Marseille boss Rudi Garcia is believed to be anxious to bring the player to the port city in January.

Vidal has failed to make a mark at the Liga champions since his €18 million arrival from Sevilla in the summer of 2015. After signing a five-year deal in Catalunya, he was not permitted to play for the blaugrana until the following January, due to the club’s transfer embargo that they were serving at the time.

That delay seriously affected the player’s chances of regular first-team football under coach Luis Enrique and he’s never been able to establish himself in the first team. Vidal will now hope that a change of scenery will help get his career back on track after a successful spell at Sevilla, prior to his ill-fated move to the Camp Nou.
