Higuain’s agent to ask Napoli contract extension with lower release clause

This morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights the future of Napoli ace Gonzalo Higuain. The former Real Madrid’s striker contract expires in 2018 and both parties are interested in extending the player’s stay at the San Paolo.

However, the future of Higuain is linked with the result of the team. The 28-year-old would almost surely remain at the San Paolo should Napoli finish the season in second place, securing themselves a Champions League spot.

Higuain’s agent and brother Nicolas will meet Aurelio De Laurentiis to discuss the player’s contract renewal. Nicolas Higuain will reportedly ask Napoli’s owner to lower the player’s € 94 million release clause and modify some clauses regarding the player’s image rights.

De Laurentiis is ready to raise Higuain’s annual salary to € 7 million, ensuring the player to strengthen the team aiming to win the league in the next seasons.
