EXCLUSIVE ROMANO: Agent of Gabriel Jesus; "He was close to joining Inter, here's what happened"

In the end, Inter did manage acquire one of Brazil’s most exciting young striking talent in the shape of Gabigol, but it’s now emerged that they were very close to making it a double swoop by signing Gabriel Jesus, the Palmeiras frontman who eventually chose to go to Manchester City.

    THE BACKGROUND TO WHAT HAPPENED:
Calciomercato.com has learned that the decisive factor was Citizens boss Pep Guardiola, who managed to convince the player and his family that the Premier League was his best option. The player’s agent, Christian Simoes told us that; “I can say that Manchester City wanted Gabriel very badly. Inter also had talks with Palmeiras but we never managed to find a satisfactory conclusion. I’m not sure of what was spoken between the two clubs but eventually, he opted for England”.
The 19-year-old will arrive at the Etihad Stadium in January at the end of the current Brazilian championship. Simoes was asked if he was excited about the new challenge to which he replied; “Yes, of course. But he’s concentrating on finishing the season with Palmeiras and then it will be time to look forward to going to England”. Whether Inter will regret not being able to lure him to Serie A remains to be seen.
