Despite being recognized as one of the most interesting prospect of European football, Mateo Kovacic is still struggling to come up with consistent performances that would confirm his unlimited potential and technical skills.

During his spell at Inter, not even one gaffer among Andrea Stramaccioni, Walter Mazzarri and Roberto Mancini managed to find the Croatian International the right place on the pitch. That’s one of the first thing that the 21 year old reproach to his former managers in an interview released to Croatian media Sportske Novosti.

“I am an holding midfielder and I think that trying to change my natural role was a huge mistake. I am confident playing in the same role that Modric and Kroos are playing at Real Madrid or that Iniesta has at Barcelona,” the Croatian claimed.

Roberto Mancini in particular is the manager that former Inter is blaming the most.

“He was not even talking to me. Our relation was neither bad or good. Honesty I don’t think he wanted me to stay at the club. When I signed for Real Madrid, he told me he was sad to see me leaving, but I don’t believe he really was.”

Former Milan and Juventus target found relief after that his € 35 million move at the Santiago Bernabeu was complete.

“It was a great honor for me to play at Inter, but I have no doubt Real Madrid are at a higher level. In the end I was happy to leave because I don’t know how it could end up there. Trainings in Italy are boring, some sessions are not even done with the ball. La Liga’s clubs technical skills are way better [than Serie A clubs] and I think this is a style of play that fits me more.”

It is for sure that Kovacic positioning on the pitch has been quite an important issue during his spell at San Siro. But what it is also certain, is that if the Croatian would have put on the pitch the same personality that he draw out during this interview, than things may have turn out to be different during his Italian experience.
