    Milan: the fans vote for Donnarumma to be captain but does he want to stay?

    After a recent survey on Calciomercato.com, Milan goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma has been chosen as the player the supporters want to replace the unfortunate Riccardo Montolivo as captain. The 17-year-old is an intriguing personality and he received 43% of the votes. Second came attacking midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura with 36% followed by Mattia De Sciglio with 10%.
     
    On paper this looks like another chapter in the fairytale rise to stardom of the boy from Catellammare Di Stabia, the reality however, is much more uncertain with the youngster still yet to commit his long-term future to the rossoneri. Some of Europe’s heavyweight clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the player and his agent, the ebullient Mino Raiola wants assurances from the new Chinese owners that they really do intend to make the club competitive again both domestically and in Europe. Before this is sorted out, the long-term captaincy remains on the back-burner.
