OPINION: Piotr Zielinski the right player to strengthen AC Milan’s midfield

Nine games left until the end of the season, when Sinisa Mihajlovic might be sacked as AC Milan boss as Sassuolo’s Eusebio Di Francesco is rumored to be in pole position to take over from the Serbian tactician.

With the 17-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma who represents the present and the future of the club, the Rossoneri are expected to upgrade their defense signing a new centre-back, while Philippe Mexes and Alex (whose contracts expire this June) are edging closer to Milanello’s exit door.

The situation is totally different in terms of strikers as no one is yet certain to stay at the club next season. The most disappointing ones (Jeremy Menez, KP Boateng and Mario Balotelli) are going to leave the San Siro, while the most prolific, namely M’Baye Niang and Carlos Bacca, could also leave, should the Diavoli receive the right offer in the upcoming transfer window.

What about the midfield? Juraj Kucka and Riccardo Montolivo should be the cornerstones around whom the next manager will build the Rossoneri’s midfield.

Despite his intension of leaving Zenit next summer, it is highly unlikely to see a player like Axel Witsel joining the San Siro side. The reasons behind that are pretty simple: first of all AC Milan will not play Champions League football in the next campaign, not to mention they will not be able to match the Belgium International’s salary requests.

We can already rule out the possibility of any top European midfielder joining the club for the same reasons mentioned above. That’s why one of those players AC Milan should really focused on is Empoli starlet Piotr Zielinski.

The Udinese loanee is blazing a trail at the Castellani this term having score three goals and registered five assists in 28 league games. The Poland International could be the right man at the right time being a young (21-year-old) centre midfield good at technical things and with vision too.

Zielinski will come back to Udinese after the end of his loan spell in Tuscany, but an investment in the region of € 10 million could convince Giampaolo Pozzo to sell one of the most promising player the Serie A have offered this season.
