Exclusive: latest updates on the future of De Boer at Inter
The club officially confirmed trust in De Boer last week, but his position is under scrutiny again after yesterday’s defeat to Sampdoria.
On the one hand, Inter could decide to sack De Boer before Thursday’s Europa League clash, on the other hand, Erik Thohir and Suning would prefer to see how the team reacts to yesterday’s defeat, before taking a final decision on the manager’s future.
The situation of possible successors: As we’ve previously reported, there are many names on Inter’s watchlist. Former President Massimo Moratti is pushing for Leonardo. The Brazilian has been offered an interim appointment and a future role in the club’s control room.
Trouble is, Leonardo wants his new role to be defined straight away, he has requested an operative role which at the moment can’t be guaranteed with Piero Ausilio, Javier Zanetti and Giovanni Gardini who are covering strategic positions at the club, not to mention the ‘shadow man’ Kia Joorabchian.
Laurent Blanc has also been contacted by the nerazzurri , but the Frenchman is requesting a salary which is too high especially because Inter could change manager once again at the end of the season as the club’s big dream is to hire Diego Simeone in the 2017-18 campaign.
Who’s left then? Stefano Pioli who, however, would have to rescind his Lazio contract, Francesco Guidolin, Edi Reja and Andrea Madorlini who have all been contacted by nerazzurri chiefs in the next few hours. Meantine, Frank De Boer still hopes to have some time left to save his job at Inter, Thursday could be his last chance.
