EXCLUSIVE Romano: Simeone wants Mauro Icardi at Atletico Madrid
Scorer of seven goals in 14 Serie A games, Mauro Icardi is currently Inter’s top scorer, despite a torrid start to the season.
No secret that Los Colchoneros’ boss Diego Pablo Simeone is a long time admirer of former Sampdoria hit-man, so much so he wanted to bring him to the Estadio Calderon last summer too.
Inter have no intension of selling their captain and leading scorer in January and president Erik Thohir has recently warned Icardi’s suitors that they’d need a ‘mountain of money’ to secure the player’s services.
Romano also points out that it’ll be nothing easy for Simeone to convince Inter to sell Icardi next summer and even an offer in the region of € 40-45 million might not be enough to buy a player capable of scoring 48 goals in 103 Serie A games.
Icardi signed a new deal with the club last summer which is worth € 4.5 million per year and runs until 2019.
