Juve-Lichtsteiner: Chelsea alerted as Barcelona pull out of race to sign him

According to Spanish journal Sport, Barcelona have ended their interest in Juventus full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner. The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to the Catalan giants in January, but it seems as though the blaugrana have changed track and decided to look elsewhere.

This may be good news to former bianconeri boss Antonio Conte, who has regularly checked back with his former club to ask about the player’s availability.  The pair were together in Turin and the Swiss international’s style fits perfectly in Conte’s preferred 3-5-2 formation. With his contract due to expire in the summer, but with Juve having inserted a clause in it that states that if the player does leave for pastures new, then he will automatically be given a contract extension of two years that any prospective buyer would have to pay in full to the Serie A champions. There is also reported interest from the Bundesliga.
