Milan to make a January move for Mikel

According to the London Evening Standard, Chelsea will not be offering Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel an extension to his current contract which expires in the summer and a January exit from Stamford Bridge is likely. The 29-year-old, who has been in West London since 2006, has not been in the matchday squad all season after representing his country at the Rio Olympics and a new year departure looks to be his best option.

There could be a lifeline from Italy however, with Milan reportedly interested in bringing him to Serie A. Coach Vincenzo Montella is looking to add experience to his midfield and Mikel could be the perfect fit to nurture the talent of Locatelli, who has burst on to the scene this season. The rossoneri will face completion from Marseille, who have also made noises about taking him to the Stade Velodrome. There could also be offers from the MLS and Middle-East for a player who still has a lot to offer.
