CM Sources – Napoli prepare to offer Dries Mertens a new contract

Dries Mertens is the next Napoli star that will be signing a contract extension with the partenopei. After Koulibaly, Albiol and Hysaj, the Belgian winger will be rewarded for his amazing performances over the last few seasons as Aurelio De Laurentiis will offer him a new deal, calciomercato.com’s Fabrizio Romano has exclusively learned.

Both Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini wanted to sign the talented winger. The Special One had set sights on him in summer 2015 when he was still in charge of Chelsea. Mancini has been requesting Mertens’ services in each transfer window, but Napoli never wanted to listen to offers for the 29-year-old.

Mertens is on a € 1.2 million deal until 2018 and has requested a new € 3 million-a-year contract. Mertens is also not happy with the club’s policies on image rights and the club’s DS Giuntoli wants to find a solution that can leave all the parties satisfied.

There is no agreement yet, but some steps have been made in order to find a good agreement for all the parties involved and a new meeting has been scheduled for mid November.
