Mertens and Napoli find agreement for contract extension, announcement imminent

Today’s edition of Il Mattino reports that Napoli and Dries Mertens have almost found agreement for the contract extension of the Belgium International.

Merten’s Napoli contract runs until 2018 but the two parties have been negotiating a contract extension since the beginning of the season.

Calciomercato.com had already reported that Mertens wants his € 1.2 million-a-year salary to be raised to € 3 million a year plus bonuses and that the 29-year-old is not happy with the club’s policies on image rights.
However, according to the Italian paper, Napoli and Mertens seem to have found a definitive agreement over the player’s contract extension.

The former Feyenoord star is expected to pen his new deal during the incoming International break.

Mertens has been impressing for Napoli this season having scored four goals and registered three assists in seven games in all competitions this term. The Belgian winger completed a € 10 million switch from Feyenoord to Napoli in summer 2013 and has 38 goals in 127 games for the San Paolo outfit.
